You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Dixie apparently likes McDonald's. She kept jumping her owner's four foot tall fence (which any or most large dogs would do) and going to visit the wonderful smells at McDonald's. Her owners decided not to get her this time and signed her over. We told them hounds are hard to place for us and we have many, but there you have it. She is about four years old and heartworm negative. I hope we can save her, but our shelter is very full. Heartworm test negative.The Clay County Animal Shelter is located at xxxx0 Hwy. 45 in Louisville, IL. Their phone number is 618-665-xxxx. The shelter is open to the public 1-3 M-F. Sundays we are open 1-4 to the public. We have adoption events every 1st and 3rd Saturday from 10-2 at Orscheln's in Flora. If those times don't work, please call to set up a time to visit. The adoption fee is $50 for dogs and includes vaccination (one shot of 5 way for adult dogs and two shots of 5 way two weeks apart for puppies as well as deworming) as well as microchipping, which is now mandatory by state law. On dogs we have spayed/neutered, we ask for the spay/neuter fee to be covered as well. We get a shelter rate for spay/neuter, so our rates are $55-70 for male dogs and $75-90 for female dogs. All cats are spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Kittens (under six months of age) are $40. Cats older than six months are $20. It costs us more than that to spay/neuter/microchip/vaccinate and deworm the kittens and cats, but we subsidize the adoption fees to help save cat and kitten lives.
